You probably have heard this from me before, but it deserves repeating. Liberty Wildlife has the best staff and volunteers of any organization that I am aware of. Here’s a case in point.
Last Saturday (yes, a blessed weekend morning) we planned a work day. Little did we know at the time of planning that we would be in the middle of an extreme heat warning streak! But, it didn’t seem to matter to the assembled group who showed up at 5:00 in the morning…still dark skies and hunkered down clouds that were responsible for holding humid air close the ground…right where we were working….not a breath of a breeze.
Every now and then the place needs a close scrutiny and a de-cluttering eye (actually most of the time). But, it so happened that this was the case last Saturday morning at 5:00 a.m. Staff and volunteers, who could, showed up with bandanas, grubby clothes, water and a yen to clean. And, clean they did. Everything from raking the gravel, to weed whacking, to hauling stuff to the dump fell prey to the busy hands of this valiant group. Things that have been stored for future use to the point of having no real future were discarded or hauled away.
Vermin habitat was cleansed and in some cases totally abolished, concrete slabs mopped and swept, aquariums made sparkly again and windows transformed to actually allow light to come through them again. The items previously removed from the attic for the last scout project were inventoried and re-stored so we actually know what is upstairs at all times. The freezer room is spic and span and all the innards are organized.
Here’s what is so amazing. There were so many opportunities to hear whining, griping and crabby attitudes, BUT NONE OF THAT WAS THERE. At 9:30-10:00 when all was said and done, the happy but tired and very, very satisfied workerbees left knowing what a great job they had done. It seems that in this case the motto was: If a job is worth doing it is worth doing well!
Thanks to all of you who were able to help on Saturday and to all of the rest of you for helping to keep that accomplishment in place in the future!
