Hoots, Howls, and Hollers 11/02/2009

I approach the mail with a jaundiced eye. So much of the mail received at our P.O. Box these days is junk. The next cringer is the stack that ends up in the bills pile…oh my! But, in each daily gathering of mail there is a jewel or two or more. Maybe it is a letter from a friend of Liberty’s thanking us for our work, and maybe it even has a check in it….yipppppeee! Also, in that sought after pile I find treasures unsuspected. Last Thursday yielded one of those nuggets. In it was a letter from the Arizona Game and Fish Department, and it wasn’t just a bulletin announcing a meeting or reminding us that our end of the year report would be due. Here’s what it said: “The Arizona Game and Fish Commission met on September 11th, 2009 to select award recipients for their Annual Commission Awards. You (Liberty Wildlife) were selected by the Commission to be a recipient of the Conservation Organization of the Year.”

Conservation Organization of the Year! How cool is that? There will be an awards ceremony on January 16, 2010, and if you are interested in coming in support of our award, we would be thrilled. More information will follow as I receive it.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Commission for the recognition, but mainly I would like to thank the people who made it happen…our wonderful staff and volunteers….every last one of you has had a part in this award….be proud…very, very proud. Although we do what we do as a labor of love, it is wonderful when the relatively private hard work, tears, and laughter gets publically recognized.

We are very appreciative, and if it is possible we will work even harder to prove how much we deserve it! Conservation Organization of the Year!
